UPDATE Special Edition DB Sunshine Cutlass SX

Published on 1/27/2012

UPDATE - 1/27/2012- On 11/14/2011-Doug sent me the folloing email.

"Hi, it's Doug from New Jersey, remeber I talked to you about the DB Sunshine special SX from South Carolina? On your forum it says that I bought the car, but I didn't. It did sell shortly after, I believe he lives in Colorado.. He actually gave me his phone number and email but he hasn't responded back to me"

On June 20, 2011 Kevin Leonard, an original SX455 member from Texas discovered an interesting Cutlass SX. Kevin contacted several club members including SX guru Terry Divelbliss and SX455 Club President Bob Peters about what he had unearthed…literally it looks like the car had been buried for years!

Kevin email stated, “I came across this car and it almost looks like a sister to the Black W32 SX car Terry researched - the one with Nikki Phillips popping up through the sunroof. This SX is called a "DB Sunshine" edition, which I never heard of. At first I just blew this off as something a previous owner may have done or maybe a regional dealer thing...someone added decals to it.

But then I looked closer and it is pretty well optioned, but the kicker is that it has a power sunroof just like the Black W32. This is not the type of sunroof that an owner or some hack shop would have done back in the day. This would have been an expensive thing to do properly, so I'm really wondering why this car has this sunroof.”

Kevin provided the VIN: VIN # 342570M231641

DATA TAG:

ST70 3 4257 0 LAN 332494 BDY

TR 977 10 10 PNT

12C

The car featured a dual gate shifter, power windows, sport wheel, sport mirrors, a/c, SSII. It has SX badges and the cut-out rear bumper and a half vinyl top like the Hurst Olds. It has a 455...Block 396021 F.

Unfortunately, the C pillars and roof have MAJOR rust and the trunk pan is rotted out.

Later that same week Bob Peters received a phone from Doug Benci, a gentleman from New Jersey. Doug said he was visiting family in South Carolina when he came across this DB Sunshine Cutlass SX. Doug did some research on SX455.com and contacted Bob Peters.

Doug told Bob, “I contacted the Calvin Badgley, the Director of the Hurst Olds Club. Calvin gave Doug Doc Watson’s contact info.

Doc Watson said, “If it was touched by us it was a Hurst/Olds. If it came out of the factory, it was an Oldsmobile with Hurst options.”

Doc added, there were a number of other dealer direct sunroof programs done by Wisco, American Sunroof, and another company whose name escapes me. Sorry I can’t be of help there.”
