NEW Restoration Questions

Wheels 70 convertible
Author Last Post

I have a couple pictures but plan on taking more this week when I get it out of storage for a little bit. I am really looking forward to starting to give her some much needed TLC.

Thanks for replying Dan, what are you looking for price wise for the wheels and tires? You are a long ways from Illinois so not sure what shipping that weight would be.

I just replaced my SS1 15"x7" wheels on my 70 442 vert. Just me but 15s look great on a 70 and I have disk in the front, drum in the back and they fit great. I now have an extra 4ea 15" SS1 with new Copper Cobra P225 R15 70 that I just mounted last summer. They look great and only replaced them to get a little wider 15x8 on the car. Let me know if you are interested in them. I don't have them listed anywhere else yet.

Hello Rob,

Congrats on picking up your mom's car. Please post some pictures so we can help you with your interests in restoring your car. It always helps to see what we're/you're working with before handing out advice.

As for wheels and hubcaps, the 1970 Cutlass SX was available with several variations of hubcaps in addition to the SS1 and SS2 wheels. The "wire wheel" version of the 1970 hubcap was option N95 - see pic. The other 1970 hubcaps are P01, P02, P03.

I am purchasing my moms 1970 SX convertible. It currently does not have the right wheels on it from what I have read. It has wire hubcaps currently. I have been told it should have 14" SS1 or SS2 wheels on it. This will be my first purchase to try to bring the car back to all original.

I am looking at purchasing 15" SS1 wheels for it and did not know if anyone has any suggestions. I would like to move to 15" for tire options but also might put disk brakes on the front later down the road. I have read this would be easier with 15" as opposed to 14"? I am looking at a 4 wheel set from Original Parts Group. I do not know the quality of them as they are listed as reproduction.

Just all pretty new to me so any assistance would be appreciated and I just recently joined this group.
