General Cutlass SX455 Q&A

Throttle Cable
Author Last Post

I purchased the in-line tube one this summer. It isn’t an exact replica of the original and I had some fitment issues on the bracket to the rear of the carb. When I compared the original to their replica it was different enough that I ended up not using it. Several of their products are not exact as they claim to be.

Thanks

Purchased from Inline Tube. I believe The Parts Place sells them also.

Did a temp. Fix that didn't last. Where did you buy the repro cable?

Thanks

Thank you for the information Brian. I'm going to take a closer look at it this weekend I'll let you know if I come up with a good fix. thanks again

I had the exact same problem. My gas pedal was low, bottomed out on the carpet before opening the four barrel, and I had the same 1" or so of cable slack that you pictured. I thought, "I'll buy one of the reproduction throttle cables because mine must be stretched." Turns out the repro cable didn't fix the problem, and, didn't work as smoothly as the original. Then I thought, "Well, maybe my gas pedal rod is bent" and bought another original gas pedal linkage assembly. That wasn't it either. Both my existing and the replacement has the same profile. I thought, maybe the cable retainer that attaches to the carburetor mount bolts is incorrect. Nope, that wasn't it.

Whether it is the correct solution or not I ended up bending the gas pedal linkage. Problem solved until someone can tell me where the discrepancy lies, but I feel I exhausted my options.

Brian H.

Anyone know if the stock 1970 throttle cable is adjustable? (Doesn't appear to be). I have over an inch of slack at the gas pedal. Anyone else have this issue? Fixes?

Thanks
