That VIN stamp 31X on your block confirms that you have a 1971 engine out of a full size car built in the Kansas facility which only built full size cars in 1971. The G heads are correct for the 71 engine as well. If you would like, you can send me a picture of the build sheet and I can analyze the entire sheet for you.

Since you have G heads I’m going to say you have a 71 455, the 70’s came with C heads, but I maybe wrong Alan can you confirm what I just answered. BTW Alan is the Guru in all things SX.

My car is a 1970 sx convertible with the w32 option (have the build sheet) It has G heads and the block is stamped 31X104355 Can somebody tell me what I have for a motor?
